Electrolux Vac from the Sea project receives environmental award

Electrolux and the Vac from the Sea project have been awarded the “Keep Norway Clean” organization’s Gullklypa, an annual prize awarded to a company or an organization that has shown outstanding commitment to improving the local environment. The project has recently also received distinguished awards in Sweden and the US.

“Keep Norway Clean” is an organization advocating recycling and clean local environments in Norway. Every year they hand out the Gullklypa award . This year’s award was presented at a ceremony in Norway’s capital Oslo. It was handed over by Erik Solheim, Norwegian Minister of Environment, to Cecilia Nord, Head of Floor Care Environmental and Sustainability Affairs at Electrolux.

The explanation:

“Electrolux has strongly distinguished itself by putting marine plastic debris on the agenda, increased awareness of the problem, stimulated the physical redevelopment of oceans and coasts. They have also lifted the relationship between marine plastic waste and use of recycled plastics. Awarding Electrolux is a good signal and inspiration – it shows that business can and will participate in this work and that marine plastic waste is a global challenge!”

Cecilia Nord, accepting on behalf of Electrolux, was happy to receive the award for such an important project.

“I am of course happy about the award,” she says. “But the real victory is that Vac from the Sea has raised awareness around the scarcity of recycled plastic. Not just in green communities but in the broad masses. So far, over 100 million people have been reached by the campaign. This would not have been possible without our partners in environmental and research organizations, volunteers and experts. We share this prize with all of them.”

Swedish Golden Egg

Electrolux  also received a Swedish Golden Egg (Guldägg), the highest honor, in the category integrated communication for its Vac from the Sea campaign. The award is given each year to honor PR campaigns in Sweden.

The jury in its explanation said: “This is a fantastic example of the ability to influence in earnest. This is a campaign that unites product development and the consumer behind one and the same idea.”

The Vac from the Sea campaign also received a Silver Egg (second prize) in the category for PR.

Andy Award

Across the Atlantic, the Vac from the Sea campaign also received an Andy Award in the sustainability category. The International ANDY Awards are the oldest awards for advertising in the United States.

Judged by a jury comprised of internationally renowned creative directors, the ANDY’s began as a New York print only show that has evolved into an international show covering print, radio, television, out-of-home, direct mail, video/cinema, interactive and other media.
