Climate change

Climate change is a core and highly relevant issue for Electrolux. With our strong focus on innovation, global presence and broad consumer interface, Electrolux is in a position to effect positive change.

With our biggest environmental impacts occurring during the product use phase, by far our greatest potential to reduce CO2 is to sell energy-lean products. In the EU, electricity used for appliances accounts for approximately two percent of its total CO2 emissions.

Our effort to reduce CO2 tackles energy efficiency of our products. It also focuses on streamlining our operations and stimulating a wider awareness among consumers and decision-makers on the role of efficient appliances. This three-pronged approach is fully integrated into how we do business.

The Electrolux response

  • We have defined targets to improve energy use in our operations.
  • Energy consumption in our products are an average of 50% less than in comparison to comparative models of the mid 1990s. Today, the most efficient refrigerators made by Electrolux consume no more electricity than a low-energy light bulb.
  • We are developing new solutions—such as Sensidry, a heat pumpt tumble dryer that consumes 50% less electricity than a conventional dryer. The Sensidry was also the first EU A-rated tumble dryer on the market. Other innovations are the Jet System and Automatic Level Control technologies for washing machines, which have reduced water and electricity consumption.
  • We support standards for product energy consumption and advocate the use of energy labeling.
  • Together with other manufacturers in Europe, we are committed to voluntary agreements and phasing out the least energy-efficient appliances from the market.
  • Through our Eco-savings online calculator, we communicate the importance of energy efficient appliances to consumers, media as well as to local and national governments.
  • Water efficiency is an important component of product development. Water efficient appliances can help reduce energy use, by cutting the amount used to treat, pump and heat water.
