Legislation

The most important global trends in legislation affecting the Electrolux Group involve energy and water efficiency, recycling and restrictions on the use of potentially hazardous substances.

The Electrolux Group has adopted a forward-thinking strategy, and participates in continuous dialog with lawmakers and authorities to promote market-driven systems that stimulate product development.

A number of regulatory instruments are used to limit energy consumption of appliances, including the EU and North America. More are expected – both in labeling and minimum energy standards.

The EU Directive on hazardous substances (RoHS) bans the placement of electrical or electronic equipment on the market that contains lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and two groups of brominated flame retardants.

Electrolux has a system in place to stay ahead of the most forward-thinking legislation on recycling. We have instated compliance schemes for handling the take-back and recycling of discarded appliances in all countries applying the WEEE Directive where Electrolux is fully represented.

Through the EU regulation on Registration of Chemicals (REACH) and their safe use manufacturers and importers of finished products are required to gather information on the substances used in their products, as well as information that will help them manage chemicals safely.
