Taking expertise from one region to another is part of what international mobility at Electrolux is all about. For Tomas Dahlman, moving from Stockholm, Sweden to Charlotte, USA has meant not only learning the...

From one global position to another, Zanda Garanča brings her international and project experience to the new HR Service Organization, HRS.
You spent last year as the Global AIESEC Coordinator at Electrolux. What did you enjoy most about this position?
AIESEC is a student organization that provides a platform for youth leadership development. As a partner, Electorlux provides internship opportunities for newly educated young leaders.
On one hand, I enjoyed the truly global scope of the position as I worked with managers from all functions and regions from China to Brazil. On the other hand, I really felt like I made a difference for both individuals and Electrolux as a whole. While every new internship makes a big impact on each individual’s future career and life, it also means each intern Electrolux takes on brings diversity, energy and a fresh opinion.

How have you seen yourself develop professionally through being the AIESEC coordinator?
First of all, I have a new kind of cultural awareness. For examples, last year I interviewed candidates from all continents, and I was able to see the range of difference in how people actually communicate. Second, I realized that I was a good project manager, as the international recruitment process is quite complex and requires constant follow-up. Finally, I discovered I could be a good salesperson.
Briefly describe your current position in HR.
In my position as Senior Talent, Learning & Development Specialist, I am developing a common and structured approach to management training in Europe. I also work on how to make the employee development programs we have offer the most value to those who participate in them.
You have lived in several different countries: Belgium, Sweden and now Poland. Have you noticed any differences in business styles between the countries?
Even though we have one company culture, there are certain differences based on the national cultures in the office. I have made two observations: There is a different understanding of hierarchy. In Sweden, the hierarchy is very flat, whereas it seems to be more visible in Poland and Belgium. On the other hand it is more common to solve different issues over coffee in Poland and Belgium than in Sweden.
What do you like about living in Krakow so far?
I very much enjoy Polish hospitality, cuisine and the Jewish district of Kaziemirz with its cozy cafes.
Sometimes big changes are brought about by seemingly "little" ideas. For instance: How can you cut down on the number of scratches and dents on appliances coming off the factory floor? Silicon strips on...
